Performing a Vaastu Pooja, also known as Vastu Shastra Pooja or Griha Vaastu Pooja, is a ritual aimed at invoking positive energy and blessings for a harmonious and prosperous living environment according to the principles of Vastu Shastra, an ancient Indian architectural science. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to perform Vaastu Pooja:
Preparation:
- Choose an Auspicious Time: Consult with a priest or an astrologer to determine an auspicious date and time for conducting the Vaastu Pooja. This timing is typically based on the Hindu calendar and astrological considerations.
- Cleanse the Space: Ensure that the area where the pooja will be performed is clean and free from clutter. This could be the main entrance of the house or the area representing the Brahmasthan (center) of the home, which is considered significant in Vastu Shastra.
- Gather Necessary Items: Collect the essential items required for the pooja. This may include:
- Idols or pictures of deities: Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Vishnu, or any other deity worshipped by the family.
- Vastu Yantra or Vastu Shila: A symbol or stone representing Vastu Purusha, the presiding deity of Vastu.
- Incense sticks, camphor, and ghee lamps: For offering prayers and performing aarti (lighting lamps and waving them in front of deities).
- Flowers, fruits, and sweets: Offerings to the deities.
- Water, milk, curd, honey, and sugar: Offerings for the ritual.
- Rice grains, turmeric, kumkum (vermilion), and sandalwood paste: Used for various rituals and offerings.
Process:
- Ganesh Puja: Begin by invoking Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and seeking his blessings for the successful completion of the pooja.
- Vastu Purusha Invocation: Place the Vastu Yantra or Vastu Shila on a clean cloth or platform at the center of the area where the pooja will be conducted. Offer prayers to Vastu Purusha, seeking his blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the household.
- Deity Worship: Offer prayers to the chosen deities, expressing gratitude, and seeking their blessings for the occupants of the house.
- Homam (Fire Ritual): If desired, a homam can be performed using a small sacred fire pit (havan kund). Offer ghee, rice grains, and other ritual items into the fire while chanting Vedic mantras for purification and blessings.
- Aarti and Prasad: Conclude the pooja by performing aarti with incense sticks, camphor, and ghee lamps. Wave the aarti in a circular motion in front of the deities and Vastu Yantra/Shila. Distribute prasad (blessed food) to all attendees.
- Blessing the House: After the pooja, sprinkle holy water around the house or place a tilak (auspicious mark) on the main entrance to bless the home and ward off negative energies.
- Express Gratitude: Finally, express gratitude to the deities, Vastu Purusha, and all the attendees for their presence and blessings.
Note: It’s essential to perform the Vaastu Pooja with sincerity, devotion, and a pure heart, focusing on the intention of creating a harmonious and positive living space according to Vastu principles.
