Item: Sashti Pooja Kit

Item List: Sandalwood paste, water, pooja utensils, pooja thali, Haldi, Kumkum, Flowers, ghee lamp, Oil Lamp, Incense Sticks, Camphor, Pooja Chowki, Fruits, Prasadam, Coconut with Betel Leaves and Nuts.

Kindly Note: Flowers, Fruits, Sweets, Coconut & Betel leaves needs to be bought freshly on the day of the pooja. So, the Kit doesn’t include these items.

Process of Sashti Pooja

Preparation:

Clean the house and the prayer area.

Take a bath and wear clean clothes.

Arrange a clean, decorated place for performing the pooja with all the necessary items.

Setting Up the Altar:

Place a picture or idol of Lord Ganesha ( As before starting of any Pooja, Offering or the pooja to Lord Ganesha is done prior).

Place a picture or idol of Lord Murugan (Kartikeya).

Decorate with flowers and light lamps (diyas).

Arrange offerings like fruits, coconut, flowers, incense sticks, and camphor.

Pooja Procedure:

Begin with a prayer to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles.

Chant the Sankalpa (intention) to signify the purpose of the pooja.

Perform Abhishekam (ritual bathing) of the idol with water, milk, honey, and other items.

Offer flowers, sandalwood paste, turmeric, and kumkum to the idol.

Recite slokas and mantras dedicated to Lord Murugan, such as the “Skanda Shasti Kavacham” or “Subramanya Bhujangam”.

Offer naivedyam (food offerings) such as fruits, sweets, and prasadam.

Perform aarti by lighting camphor and circling it around the idol.

Conclusion:

Pray and meditate for a few minutes, seeking blessings.

Distribute prasadam to family members and others.

When to Perform Sashti Pooja

Timing: Sashti Pooja is performed on the sixth day (Sashti) of the lunar fortnight. It is observed twice a month – during the waxing (Shukla Paksha) and waning (Krishna Paksha) phases of the moon.

Special Occasions: The most significant Sashti is Skanda Sashti, which falls in the Tamil month of Aippasi (October-November). This period marks the defeat of the demon Surapadman by Lord Murugan.
